Amitesh's story

Amitesh Grover is one of India’s leading theatre makers, who as an undergraduate studied Live & Digital Arts at the University of Arts, London.

A few years later, with scholarship support from the Charles Wallace India Trust, Amitesh returned to London to do an MA in Visual Language of Performance at Wimbledon College of Art.

Amitesh is Artistic Director of ITFoK 2020 – International Theatre Festival of Kerala, in Thrissur; Imagining Communities runs from 20 January–29 January 2020 showcasing 18 plays, including 7 international productions. Acclaimed UK writer and director Inua Ellams is taking part in ITFoK 2020 and the keynote lecture will be delivered by Dr. Phillip Zarrilli, Emeritus Professor of Performance Practice at Exeter University, UK. Dr Zarrilli’s talk is titled ‘Embodied Consciousness:’, in which he unpacks the ‘studio’ as a site for philosophical exploration, a site where the training/practice of the actor offers the possibility of “doing” philosophy “in the flesh”.

Amitesh’s work occupies the intermediate space between Theatre, Performance and Interactive Art. He has created work on Grief, on Sleep, on Happiness and on several other ephemeral grounds of knowledge. He produces work in interdisciplinary ways, through performances, texts, objects, images, installations and films. Amitesh’s practice highlights the performative common between society, technology and philosophy. His work has been shown internationally at festivals, in theatres, galleries, public spaces and online.
