Charlie Walker

Charlie read Modern Languages at Queen’s College, University of Oxford. 

Since joining the British Council in 1992, Charlie has proved himself as a high-performing leader always extending beyond his remit and demonstrating a keen commitment to cultural relations. 

Charlie has lived and worked in South Asia and the Middle East for more than two decades in diverse leadership roles in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as well as in Jordan and in Saudi Arabia. 

In the UK since 2016, Charlie has led or influenced key organisational thinking on the UK’s global presence and the British Council’s geographical priorities. A keen linguist, Charlie’s early career focused on using European languages in a range of contexts both in the UK and abroad (guiding, technical translating, interpreting, marketing), before he decided to focus in on English Language Teacher Training.  Charlie’s passions are tennis, walking, cooking, literature and the arts and the way that they can open up international experience.
